Album Review-- Destiny Fulfilled- Destiny's Child

Remember when the Destiny's Child girls dressed up in fatigues and danced on the beach for that "Survivor" video? Don't front, ya'll know that was the song!! We are ALL guilty of singing that song in our cars when it came on the radio. And what about the comedy in the video for "Bootylicious"? Stop playin, we all loved that song... Well folks, this is a far cry from "Survivor", believe it.

Well, the reunited R&B trio better hope they have some more sexy gimmicks up their sleeves to spice up this new disc. The first word that comes to mind while listening to Destiny Fulfilled is: Huh?! The second is: Why? Several hours after that, it's: W-T-F? Soundscan says the album hasn't even hit gold yet, with a little over 490,000 copies sold at last count. That is not a good sign, ladies!!

After a bangin' first single "Lose My Breath" (yeah, I like that song, so what?)and the bouncing "Solider," the disc slips into a mediocre journey of three girls trading sub-par verses and hopelessly whimpering over men in too many sappy songs like "T-Shirt" and "Cater 2 U." Where are the independent women we once knew?

Looks to me like the only destiny fulfilled is the fulfillment of the contract... and the end of DC3 as we know it... especially after the Michelle fall on 106 and Park...

I'm glad I didn't actualy BUY the album... cause I woulda been mad as hell.

The Evidence That Not Everyone Is Prepared For Parenthood

Trial opens for Florida man accused of giving toddler heroin and cocaine

By Emanuella Grinberg
Court TV

Shawn Edward Malsky has seen his share of jail cells, but his latest might be the last if he is found guilty of giving drugs to his girlfriend's 4-year-old daughter.

Malsky faces up to 115 years if convicted of aggravated child abuse and delivering controlled substances to a minor for allegedly injecting his girlfriend's daughter with heroin and putting a lit crack pipe to her mouth.

Opening statements were set to begin Monday afternoon in Oakland County (Fla.) Circuit Court.

The incident is the third abuse allegation against Malsky in the past six years, preceded by two allegations of domestic violence from the defendant's former spouse, police records show.

On Oct. 31, 2003, Malsky's girlfriend, Megan Nantell, woke up to find Malsky and her daughter, Rylee, missing from her Port Charlotte home. She called Malsky's cellphone to discover he had taken the girl for a ride in his car.

After they returned, Nantell was getting her daughter ready for school when she noticed the preschooler's eyes rolling back. She also noticed that the girl appeared lethargic, according to a probable cause report.

"[Rylee] told her that the accused had a glass pipe with a tube sticking out of it. She advised that there was smoke coming from it and he put it in her mouth stating it would give her energy," the report says.

"Megan also noticed a puncture mark on her arm and [Rylee] stated that the accused gave her a shot," it says.

Nantell brought her daughter to the hospital and called police. The girl tested positive for opiates and cocaine, but survived the overdose, although her nervous system may have been permanently damaged. When police arrested Malsky, he claimed to have smoked pot in front of the girl that morning, telling her "it gave him energy," but he denied giving her narcotics.

Nantell was arrested with Malsky just a month earlier on charges of arson and auto theft for stealing, looting and torching a sport utility vehicle.

Originally from Massachusetts, 34-year-old Malsky has been arrested 30 times in Florida, on charges running the gamut from theft to drug possession to assault. He has 10 criminal convictions, including one for beating a woman with a pool cue.

In 1990, he was named a suspect in the murder of a Deep Creek, Fla., woman who died of multiple stab wounds from a penknife. The charges were dropped in 1995 because of lack of evidence, and the case remains unsolved.

Malsky's previous wife took out restraining orders against him on two separate occasions and accused him of domestic abuse on more than one occasion, before and after marrying him. They eventually separated.

After he was arrested, Nantell took out an order against Malsky barring him from contacting her from jail. He has since been in custody.

Malsky's lawyer, Paul Sullivan, declined comment on his client's defense strategy. Calls to the Oakland County Prosecutor John Burns were not returned.

Okay... what is there to think about? A 4 year old tested positive for heroin and cocaine. Seems like a no-brainer to me...

I've said it before, I'll say it again... the world is going to hell in a gasoline soaked hand basket.

Album Review: One Love-- New Edition

The Originators Posted by Hello

After 8 years since the last album of all new material, New Edition has reunited and returned with "One Love" on Bad Boy Records. 17 tracks of true boy band stylings like none other than New Edition can produce.

Old school New Edition fans may have been thrown off by the single "Hot 2 nite", but will certainly be pleased wit the rest of the album. Classic NE melodies shine through on such tracks as "Re-Write The Memories" and "Wildest Dreams". Even some new school reinvention show up on such tracks as " All On You","Sexy Lady" and "Start Turning Me On" (which, by the way is my personal fave track on the CD right now). Even though we don't see Bobby, this is still a classic New Edition venture.

Although sometimes Ronnie and Mike can be a little annoying with their pseudo-rap skills, all in all the album is, in my opinion, a beautiful comeback. Kudos to the boys from Boston (well, at least 4 of them, anyway) from coming back and showing how it should be done.

Do YOU Recognize This Person?

Oh lawd... what in the HELL is goin on here? Posted by Hello

You know, I was watching Best Week Ever on VH1 a couple days ago and I heard that at Stanford... was it Stanford? I think it was... anyway... they said at this school that they were offering a class on Lil Kim and her music...

Now I like Kim. Love Kim actually, but I'm not about to sit in an hour lecture trying to critique Hard Core or Notorious KIM. I never knew it was that deep. Since when did lyrics like "I used to be scared of the dick/now I throw lips to the shit/handle it like a real bitch/ Heather Hunter, Janet Jacme/ Take it in the buns/ Yeah, yeah, what" need explaination?

Some things are just a waste of time. And exactly what porno star do they have teaching the class? Come on, can you really see some tenured professor up at a podium talking about "Let's discuss "U Can't Fuck Wit Queen Bee" from La Bella Mafia"? I don't know, maybe it's just me....

Did people take the Tupac class and run with it?

And another couple questions. Who is gonna take that class? Is it part of the core or is it some elective bullshit? Help me understand. How many credit hours is it worth? Is the final exam showing up with a lavender pasty on your left nipple and getting felt up by Diana Ross?

the things people do, I tell you....

Election Message or Get Yo Ass Out And VOTE!!!!

Hey People

I want to encourage everyone in the U.S. 18 & up to exercise your right to vote this Tuesday, Nov 2.Each of you should make your own personal decision on who you think is the right candidate (check out http://www.voteforsomething.com/ if you want some quick advice on the candidates' positions).

I'm personally voting for John Kerry for President. I'm doing so for a number of reasons:

----I prefer Kerry's philosophies on foreign policy and national security. I believe President Bush has consistently misled the public on the reasons for going to Iraq. He has mismanaged the plans for post-war Iraq, and, overall, he has made America and the world a more dangerous place by alienating the rest of the world and taking his focus off of the actual terrorists in order to pursue the war on Saddam, who had nothing to do with 9/11 and had no nuclear weapons. (Read the 9/11 Commission Report at http://www.9-11commission.gov/)Terrorist cells exist in many countries throughout the world, including some of our allies like the UK, France, Canada and even right here at home. We can't and won't go around declaring war on all these countries just because there are terrorists there. The main way to destroy these terrorist cells is to cooperate with the law enforcement and intelligence officials in all these countries to help stop the cells before they can plan another attack. In addition, we need to focus on alleviating the conditions that lead people to become terrorists in the first place. Attacking Saddam had nothing to do with that and only helped these terrorist cells recruit more people willing to threaten our safety. As much as he tries to scare people about what will happen if Kerry wins, President Bush is the one who has failed to make this country safer. His policies continue to create animosity around the world, and he refuses to admit that he's wrong, so don't expect things to get any better in the next four years.

----Bush's domestic policies are not very encouraging either. He does not have a comprehensive plan for bringing health care to poor or working class people. His priorities are on tax relief for wealthy Americans. Everybody likes lower taxes (I know I hate paying taxes myself), but you can't get something for nothing. Every President has to decide what is a priority, because the government can't do everything. When it comes down to it, Bush's priorities are with the rich and powerful. (FYI: Bush is expected to sign a bill that gives $140 billion in new business tax breaks to big businesses and multinational corporations, the bill is so extreme that Sen. John McCain, an Arizona Republican, called it "the worst example of theinfluence of special interests that I have ever seen.") In the meantime, Kerry has a plan to bring healthcare to nearly all Americans. To pay for it, he'd restore higher taxes for really rich people. I think this is a small sacrifice to make sure nearly every American has equal access to quality health care.

While Bush pays lip service to education and helping the middle class, he fails to put his money where his mouth is. This is part of a common pattern with this so-called "compassionate conservative." He'll talk like a moderate, but he always governs from the far right with a very divisive agenda. He claims to be a man of his word, but he so frequently misleads the American people and fails to deliver on his promises. He said he'd "leave no child behind" in his education policy, but he'd rather spend that money on attacking Iraq and cutting taxes for the wealthy than fund his own education programs. He said he was for an assault weapons ban, but he intentionally made no effort to get the ban passed in the congress. I guess he was more preoccupied with trying to pass a constitutional amendment on gay marriage than protecting his own citizens from gun violence.Additionally, George W. Bush has been the worst president in decades when it comes to the environment. Again, he always sides with the rich and powerful when he sets his policy priorities. He is oblivious to the long-term effects of his policies and refuses to accept the overwhelming scientific evidence about global warming and its harmful consequences. I could provide more examples, but this is already getting long. (Read Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.'s new book "Crimes Against Nature: How George W. Bush and His Corporate Pals Are Plundering the Country and Hijacking Our Democracy;" I hear it's very good.)

----And, perhaps most disturbing of all is the Republican effort to suppress the ultimate symbol of democracy—the right to vote. In Michigan, Republican State Rep. John Pappageorge unapologetically said that his party would not win the presidential election if the Republicans failed to "suppress the Detroit vote, which as we know happens to be overwhelmingly African American!." Please know that this is a common sentiment among Republican officials. In addition to Michigan, they are making a concerted effort to suppress the black vote in key "swing" states such as Florida and right here in Ohio. (In Florida, it has been so bad that state police officers have gone into the homes of elderly black voters in Orlando and interrogated them as part of an odd ''investigation'' of voter fraud). They have recruited an army of Republican volunteers who will raise frivolous challenges to registered voters in heavily minority/Democratic counties and spread misinformation and hostility to voters. They spread rumors about false voting requirements; they create conditions that will lead to longer lines and confusion at the polls. They DESTROY the registration cards of Democratic new registrants! All this in an effort to discourage people from exercising their constitutional right to elect the next President. This is quite simply immoral and intolerable. These are not underground conspiracy theories, people; these efforts are public knowledge and have been documented extensively by many of the major news organizations.

I can't believe there isn't more public outrage on this subject.Don't allow yourself or your family to be misled, discouraged or intimidated. The only way Bush can be re-elected is if he succeeds in suppressing the votes of young people and minorities. He knows this; his party knows this; you should know this too.So, I urge you to GO VOTE ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 2nd. I believe this is the most important election of our lifetime. I know Kerry's not perfect, but this country can't take another 4 years of deception, mismanagement and misplaced priorities by the Bush administration.

If you've gotten this far in my looooong message, thanks for your time. :)
